From the Archives: Turkey Day

A pre-feast adventure is a tradition almost as great to me as eating the damn turkey itself. Here's some past trips already in the archives featuring Gunz and I venturing out on Thanksgiving morning. Go ahead and gourge yourself.

Countless tourists admire the view of the Cheat River from the famous Coopers Rock, but across the river Snake Hill, designated as a wildlife management area, boasts several overlooks of its own from its sudden cliffs above the Canyon. The difference is the remoteness and terrain: finding the overlooks requires navigating unmarked abandoned logging roads and quite a bit of bushwhacking across some pretty steep slopes. But once you reach the views, you realize just how worth it the trip was.

Before fighting for our nation's independence, George Washington got his start in combat commanding battles in the French and Indian War, a conflict waged over the frontier of the New World. At that time, that frontier was in the immense wilderness of the Laurel Highlands. After suffering a massive defeat with staggering casualties at his makeshift fort in the Great Meadows, the spirits of the fallen fighters still linger in the place Washington once called "a charming place for an encounter."

Happy Thanksgiving!

One of the longest running traditions of Team Crash is that myself and Gunz always go to my cabin the night before Thanksgiving Thursday, eat at Glisan's, and head out on a short adventure early in the morning before returning to Pittsburgh for meals with our respective families. It's been going on since we were wee adventurers in high school so I'm gonna celebrate the holiday week by posting some of our recent Thanksgiving adventures. w00t.

I know, I know... I took like a week off. Sue me. I'm making up for it with a whole feast of new crap in celebration of Thanksgiving.

Some are already posted in the archives, some are new, and maybe just maybe I'll get a chance to add this year's trip onto the menu while it's totally fresh. In addition, I'll get a start on a new feature: an all-star listing of our favorite places to grab a bite while travelling and more. Yum!

Eat well and adventure hard!

Outfitter of the Week: Golden Triangle Bicycle

Team Crash cannot always be self-sustaining; the Captain and his faithful sidekicks often rely on businesses and various outfitters to obtain gear, services, expertise, and even food. Once a week-- usually on Wednesdays-- Crash or another member of the team will give a shout-out to an outfitter of some sort who has helped us out in the past and deserves a little free advertising here. Help support them because if they're on here, you know they're top-notch!

Everyone loves being in Pittsburgh. And bike riding is pretty cool. So shouldn't riding a bike in Pittsburgh add up to something pretty fucking sweet? That question was rhetorical, but the answer anyway is "yes!" The Steel City has embraced its beautiful location with many opportunities to enjoy the outdoors right in the heart of its urban sprawl, placing biking trails right along the shores of those three mighty rivers that call Pittsburgh home. If you wanna take advantage of this sweet combination to peddle through the golden triangle, then Golden Triangle Bicycle has ya covered. Operating in the downtown grid off of First Avenue, this bike outfitter can rent bikes of sorts to give you a pretty damn effective mode of urban transportation that will give you one of the most unique vantage points of the greatest city on earth. You can hop the trail right from the outfitter and utilize the network of bike paths to make your way to the Point, Southside, Northside, Strip District, Washingtons Landing, or hell hit up the Allegheny Passage and make your way to DC. So get off your ass and go ride some bikes... get all the info you need at http://bikepittsburgh.com/

We're On YouTube

I know there hasn't been any updates lately but it's not like we haven't been doing anything for the blog.

In our quest to expand the coverage of our sweet-ass adventures, your truly and the rest of Team Crash has decided to start getting into the wonderful world of internet videos. And you just can't do that these days without a YouTube channel, eh? We have many videos that we will be uploading to that channel covering all aspects of the Adventures of Captain Crash. Eventually. Until then there's one short documentary that Monty and I collaborated on. Enjoy it, cuz its only a preview of the awesomeness to come. I'm sure someone will post updates every time something's added over there so it looks like we actually care about doing all this shit.

You can access our YouTube channel at any time at:
